Editorial Review:
Product Description:
Now, there's a comprehensive, objective, and reliable tutorial and reference for the entire field of technical analysis. For traders, researchers, and serious investors alike, this is the definitive book on technical analysis. Individual investors and professional investment managers are increasingly recognizing the value of technical analysis in identifying trading opportunities. Moreover, the SECs requirement for analysts and brokers to pass Section 86 exams can now be fulfilled with the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) certification.
Author Charles D. Kirkpatrick II has spent decades using technical analysis to advise major investing institutions -- and he currently teaches the subject to MBA candidates, giving him unique insight into the best ways of explaining its complex concepts. Together with university finance instructor and CMT Dr. Julie Dahlquist, Kirkpatrick systematically explains the theory of technical analysis, presenting academic evidence both for and against it. Using 200+ illustrations, the authors explain the analysis of markets and individual issues, and present a complete investment system and portfolio management plan. Readers will learn how to use tested sentiment, momentum indicators, seasonal affects, flow of funds, and many other techniques. The authors reveal which chart patterns and indicators have been reliable; show how to test systems; and demonstrate how technical analysis can be used to mitigate risk.

- Simply the best textbook on the subjectPrevious reviewers have summarized the bios of the authors and the form of this book, so there is no need for me to reinvent the horse or belabor the wheel. Simply put this is the finest textbook on the subject. I am overcome by envy and admiration at the achievement represented here. Students and readers tend to look at a book and assess its worth. Authors of long books tend to look at a book, assess its quality and sigh over the amount of work which went into it. A colossal amount of work. ... Read More

- Logical reasoning and evidence-based methods describedThis is the most robust reference book about the technical analysis (TA) I have ever read. If you read it, you'll acquire the big picture of what TA is all about. Nothing is left over, except for the voo doo methods, like Gann analysis. The authors are reasoning in a logical way, and refer to external research results as much as possible, rather than just their own experience. The authors are not high about any method, like most of the other authors on the topic. They describe the bright and dark ... Read More

- Very good read! Charts could be a bit more self-explanatoryThis book is very smooth to read, and the insights are thoughtful. It is definitely a classic in Technical Analysis. However, the charts could use a little more simplicity. When you compare the charts in this book and the ones in the J. Murphy's "Technical Analysis Of The Financial Markets", considered the bible of Technical Analysis you spot the difference. The latter is a heavy volume but it can be read faster, because of the self-explanatory charts.
Overall, a must-have!
