Editorial Review:

Product Description:
In Applied Geostatistics the authors demonstrate how simple statistical methods can be used to analyse earth science data. In clear language, they explain how various forms of the estimation method called kriging can be employed for specific problems. A case study of a simulated deposit is the focus for the book. This model helps the student develop an understanding of how statistical tools work, serving as a tutorial to guide readers through their first independent geostatistical study.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This book is recommended for people who have a background in statistics
The book is recommended for people who have background in statistics. It is good book, clearly highlight important concepts in geostatistics. Perhaps, the clearest weakness in this book is the dataset used in demonstrating the presented subjects, which did not touch the reality.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - As it says, that's for students
This is a introduction of how to apply geostatistics in the simulation, hardly any realy world usage. The text is easy to read, perhaps from the class scripts.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - An invalid variant of mathematical statistics
Geostatistics violates the requirement of functional independence and ignores the concept of degrees of freedom. As a result, geostatistics cannot possibly provide unbiased statistical inferences such as confidence limits for metal contents and grades of reserves. Geostatisticians replaced the true variance of a distance-weighted average with the pseudo variance of a SET of degrees-of-freedom and variance-deprived functionally dependent distance-weighted averages. Those who want to embrace geostatistical ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very good introduction to Geostatistics
This book is an excellent introduction to the somewhat difficult field of geostatistics. The examples in the book are based on the analysis of a digital elevation model transformed into data variables. This approach works very well and the explanatory text is very readable and understandable. Initially I thought that the math would make difficult reading but I am pleased to be wrong. The basics of Geostatistics can be understood from this book without having to translate the formulae ! An alternative very ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent introduction into the field
This book does an excellent job outlining the theoretical background and applications of geostatistics. After an overview and explanation of a concept (often involving some mathematical notation) the authors drop back and give an "intuitive" approach to the subject that I find incredibly beneficial.

I am a self-taught student of geostats, and this book is my tutor. While I would prefer some formal instruction to augment this text, the text is excellent and a must-read for any student of the ... Read More
